Drouth is a Portland black metal outfit pushing the genre’s boundaries with dense compositions, searing intensity, and unexpected beauty. Drawing from the traditions of atmospheric and melodic black metal while leaning into avant-garde structures, their sound evokes both grandeur and collapse—like a cathedral crumbling in slow motion. Drouth’s live sets are cathartic and unrelenting, offering a raw, immersive experience that speaks to fans of bands like Weakling, Ash Borer, or early Wolves in the Throne Room.
Aerial Ruin is the solo project of Erik Moggridge, weaving acoustic doom-folk that’s as ghostly as it is devastating. Known for his collaborations with Bell Witch and his hypnotic solo performances, Moggridge strips everything down to voice and nylon-string guitar, creating a stark, meditative atmosphere. His music carries the weight of loss and the calm of surrender—spiritual, shadowed, and deeply human. If Nick Drake had been raised in a crypt, he might sound something like this.
Lividus is a metal band hard to define. Formed in 2017 by vocalist Uta Plotkin (ex-Witch Mountain) and bassist Connie Wang (ex-At the Seams), the band combines harsh and beautiful vocals with relentless speed, melodic riffs, and unexpected rhythmic turns. Their sound covers a landscape of brutal hardship and wicked triumph. With Rob Shaffer (Dark Castle, Simple Forms) and Christy Cather (ex-Ludicra, Ails) on guitar, and Michael Thompson (ex-Silver Talon, ex-Dearth) on drums, Lividus is a technical, unstoppable force—and a singular presence in Portland’s heavy music scene.
