We Are Parasols with Sex Park and Hawks Do Not Share

  • The Midnight Society 3341 Southeast Belmont Street Portland, OR, 97214 United States (map)

We Are Parasols are an electronic pop trio from Portland, Oregon and Atlanta, Georgia made up of D Wood (Vocals/Synthesizers), Jeremy Wilkins (Guitars/Synthesizers), and Alec Yeager (Drum/Synthesizers). On Body Horror, We Are Parasols meld new-wave synths, thundering industrial percussion, and a sly sense of humor into an eminently engaging slab of static-drenched noise pop. While early releases from the band drew primary from indie-electro, shoegaze, and post-rock, the isolation brought about by the pandemic resulted in a looking inward. Body Horror represent an important evolution in the work of We Are Parasols. Underpinning the deep bass, industrial beats, and pop vocal melodies are deeply personal vignettes that speak to the universal experience of being human.

Sex Park was formed in winter 2015/2016 by Daniel Blumenthal and Paul Burkhart, who were brought together by a mutual love of post-punk, synth pop, and 90’s dance music, as well as more modern forms like trap and grime. Guitarist Colin Buckley joined the band to accompany them on a West Coast tour to support Atrium, his elegant playing adding a dreamy new dimension to the band’s sound.

Sex Park’s upcoming full length record (Dowd Records 2022) features the band exploring territory from Acid House to Italo Disco and even sampling opera, all while retaining their irresistible, distinctive synth pop sound.

Hawks Do Not Share Longtime collaborators GL3 and Jeremy Wilkins launched Hawks Do Not Share in Fall 2013, developing a new musical identity blending familiar and novel themes. Toward the end of recording their debut album, HDNS, they added multi-instrumentalist Britt White. The album, praised by the Portland Mercury for its "lilting songs with depth and room to breathe," received positive reviews both nationally and locally. After the album release celebration at Doug Fir Lounge, Jason Roark joined as the band's full-time guitarist. The band spent much of the following years in the studio, culminating in the October 2021 release of their second album, A Dream to Hold on To, which The Music Sanctum hailed as "a 10/10 Indie album." In 2024, Britt departed the band with plans to move to the Oregon Coast. Now a trio again, GL3, Jeremy, and Jason are returning to the stage, performing songs from both of their albums along with new, unreleased material.
